Benjamin Healthcare - Community Involvement
BHC has over 200 volunteers. Volunteers assist with activity programs and provide companionship for our patients/residents. Volunteers assist with transport of patients/residents who are unable to leave their rooms and provide comfort by reading, writing and simply being there to talk and listen to them. Volunteers range in age from students to adults and play a vital role in adding to the quality of life of patients/residents.
Award Winning Intergenerational Program
Residents enjoy the companionship of local students. Through guided activities, games and crafts, the elderly connect and build relationships with youth. Benjamin's unique partnership with Roxbury Preparatory Charter School, which is housed on the Center's 3rd floor, makes the goal of maintaining intergenerational bonds, increasing opportunities of interaction and socialization, an attainable goal. This program was showcased at the 2008 Mass Extended Care Federation (now Mass Senior Care Assoc.) Annual meeting as a partnership innovation, and is partially funded by the Mission Hill Fenway Neighborhood Trust.
Special Activities for Spanish-Speaking Residents
Our Spanish-speaking residents enjoy communicating with staff in their native language. This communication aides in providing the best possible care to those who may have face a language barrier, in other settings. Our staff receive basic Spanish instruction, and feel confident in their ability to understand and converse with residents. Residents enjoy special activities led by our Spanish interpreter.
